The Rooms Are Filled - literary fiction by Jessica Null Vealitzek

99-cent E-book sale 11/29 - 12/1 : http://www.amazon.com/Rooms-Are-Filled-Novel-ebook/dp/B00IQOJ6F2

There are many reasons The Rooms Are Filled is dear to me. It was written at home in bits and pieces between breastfeedings, in a midnight daze on the notebook beside my bed, and on scraps of paper in the preschool pick-up line; then, later, during the precious hours the babysitter came.

It is dear to me because it is based on a true story my father told me many years ago--his story of growing up in rural Minnesota and then Franklin Park, Illinois, in the 1950s. He was teased and bullied, and his lovely teacher, a rumored lesbian, took him under her wing.

But it is also based in my own childhood near Chicago in the 1980s, on my love for that childhood of candy store trips and swimming pools. Of wandering.

It is dear to me because it is my first book, filled with things I love. I am happy to share it with you.

THE BLUE FOLIO - a political thriller by Matt McMahon

http://www.amazon.com/THE-BLUE-FOLIO-Matt-McMahon-ebook/dp/B00OJI0GDU

Twenty-two years after the new constitution pacified the anger of the American people, Bill Waverly, the president's attorney, finds himself at the center of a crisis that threatens the president's job, her life and the new people-centric government in this near-future political thriller which could be ripped from today's headlines.

Bill painstakingly crafts every move trying to protect the president, even against herself, until the special prosecutor, the formidable Keri Marshall, the first independent Attorney General elected after the new constitution, traps him into having to choose between protecting his most cherished asset, the president, the source of his power, and his deeply buried convictions.

He reaches out to get his old law professor, the fatherly George Comstock, one of the most influential living re-framers of the new constitution, to help save the president. But what Bill doesn't see is how backroom intrigues intertwined throughout the constitutional convention in 2037 and the new constitution's most perilous application in 2059 threaten his own life and the lives of those around him.

"a near-future political struggle so compelling and realistic that it’s easy to imagine it reflected on tomorrow’s front page."

The Babylonian - A Bible-based historical novel by Allen Ray Newton

http://www.amazon.com/Babylonian-Book-Eyes-Nimrod-Chronicles-ebook/dp/B00MD084NA

Biblical characters come alive as Kasher, a young Mesopotamian man, finds himself on a journey to Babylon, experiencing firsthand the constant struggle between the gods and The God as he serves the great king Nebuchadnezzar II.

            The year is 596 B.C.
Kingdoms and empires rise and fall, carrying men along with the inexorable insistence of a vast desert storm. Kasher, a young Mesopotamian man, determines to become a part of the empire of the great Nebuchadnezzar II, only to find himself on the battlefield not only of men, but of the gods.
What do the great symbols of Babylon - lions, dragons, gods and demi-gods - really mean: or are they merely for show?
His journey is one of mysticism, treachery and love. The world in which he moves is filled with symbolism, rivalry and beauty.
His true quest, however, reaches much deeper - into his own soul.

"I'm a fan of fiction based on history, and this is one of the best examples of that genre I've ever read. "

"Everything took shape for me as I read the book. "

"From the first page, this is a great easy to read novel. I will buy it as a gift for older teens as well as adults that love history. I appreciate the history throughout the book and the author does a great job of painting a visual on each page!"

Historical facts are seamlessly intertwined with storytelling to create a compelling tale. Several who have read the book have commented that there were many things they did not see coming. I hope you enjoy the book; watch out for the twists and turns!
Without being ‘preachy’, the message of the Bible and the truth about the spiritual struggle for the souls of men is presented throughout the book. Kasher is given as an example of how that struggle plays out in the heart of the individual as Truth is given to him by both explanation and demonstration.

The Scientist's Dilemma - an exploratory tale by J.C.L. Faltot

http://www.amazon.com/Scientists-Dilemma-J-C-L-%60-Faltot-ebook/dp/B00Q3CJ71W

Professor Grant Reed is a well-educated, highly driven man; one who's sole goal in life is to make “the discovery of discoveries.” His passion for science and his pursuit of ultimate truth motivate him to solve this ongoing dilemma. A dilemma he plans to solve before his time is up. Middle-aged and seemingly tormented by his own self-fulfilling prophecy, Grant’s journey has turned him into a hardened man. One who seems forced to find peace in the loneliest of places, like the lens of his university’s high-powered telescope, searching for an answer somewhere in the stars. But, one night, his familiar routine is rocked by the visitation of an otherworldly being who informs Grant that he must cease his search immediately or pay the consequences.

Grant is a character that came out of my own desires. He’s someone I’ve been or imitated several times in my life: searching for truth, wanting resolution, and desiring peace of mind. It’s an understanding people work towards daily - even if they aren’t consciously aware of it. However, as I’ve often discovered, the pursuit can seem admirable, but it can also steal a person’s joy if he's consumed by it. I see Grant’s dilemma as a familiar one, even after his world is forever changed by the presence of something otherworldly and altogether unnatural. But, it’s in those moments - when routine is abandoned and familiarity is lacking - when we discover the greater truth that is waiting.

This short story was intended to be a closed work and on the whole, it’s more contained than most. My hope is to provide a fun and engaging tale that makes the reader question just what it is he is asking of himself and what he wants for his life. We all make mistakes in this life, but ignoring our heart is not something we should be in the business of doing regularly.

Broken Smiles - a romance by Tara Mayoros

http://www.amazon.com/Broken-Smiles-Tara-Mayoros-ebook/dp/B00NU69UMU

About writing Broken Smiles:

When my publisher told me they loved my title Broken Smiles and wanted to keep it, I was thrilled. Here’s why.

As many authors will tell you, my story started as a dream. Well . . . that and a semi truck.

Many years ago driving across the dusty desert of Arizona, a large semi truck cut me off,  missing my front bumper by inches. Upon the back gates, a photo of a young girl smiled down at me. I found myself speeding up to stay in the wake of this truck. The Chinese child had a cleft palate and was an advertisement for Operation Smile or Smile Train. Memories flooded into my mind of when I lived in China and held a child just like this one.

“Help me,” the girl seemed to say down to me through the photo.

“How?” I replied. At the time I was beyond broke, driving a car that rattled and sputtered.

“Then tell my story.”

I cried. And then the dreams began. . .

My dream flourished into a song within a dream. It started with two sentences.

“Comfort like a mother’s love when it feels like it’s the end,

Broken Smiles on little faces that only he can mend.”

Okay, great, so I had a mother, a musician, a handsome humanitarian doctor, and a handful of children with Broken Smiles.

Now that my novel is finished, I can focus on answering the plea of this young child’s cry for help. Soon, I will be starting a foundation and I am excited to highlight these children and tell you readers about some of the experiences I have had.

ROYAL AMERICA - a western fantasy by Steve Moore

http://www.amazon.com/ROYAL-AMERICA-South-West-might-ebook/dp/B00OTNSEJI

This Western Fantasy novel is about what if the British never lost America?  The first British Western perhaps?

Would the Native Americans have been better off? Would they have  been recruited into military regiments like say,  the Queen's Own Apache Rifles?

The Book opens as Geronimo is harvesting salt at the Gila Mountains Salt Lake when a troop of British Army,  Household Cavalry Lifeguards make contact with Geronimo for the first time.

This Book features, Sitting Bull, Chocise, Lozen, Victorio, Frederick J Horniman, Abraham Lincoln, Prince Albert and Queen Victoria.  It is based on the premise, that King George the Third dies as premature baby. The British keep the jewel in the crown that is the Americas and don't go to India, the capital is Hannover DC (Dominion Capital). To the North are the Norse Americans and the Kingdom of Quebec,  to the South the Aztec Spanish and in between the Imperial Chinese are out to secure mineral wealth.  Along the West coast is British California and Lord Rhodes is out to expand the railways and exploit gold and so now he wants to invade the black hills of Dakota. The one rule Steve Moore has stuck to is don't mess with Texas who are a independent republic allied to the British and Royal American Empire.

Every aspect of this book is fast paced and challenging and perhaps controversial. Importantly, it is a story based on historical trends and events are plucked from history and twisted into a very different version of possibilities;  South west of what might have been..........................

Steve Moore is a South London, English author who has a deep interest in the lands of America and in particular the Native American peoples. The Acolytes of Crane - science fiction by J. D. Tew

http://www.amazon.com/The-Acolytes-Crane-J-Tew-ebook/dp/B00DQBZQFO

Theodore Crane is haled to step out of his ordinary life as a prankster to become a person who leads armies to glory. After he recruits a rag-tag group of teens from his community, he and his friends set out to discover the mysteries of the Galaxy in a style all their own.

The Acolytes of Crane is a quasi-memoir of my childhood with a SciFi spin. I am personally invested in this series, in that, I have poured out my memories of abuse to reveal the ugliness of it, only to then show the beauty of overcoming these challenges. My goal, is to encourage children to speak out if they live in an abusive situation. And if I can motivate boys to read at the same time, I'll take it as a bonus.

Being a military veteran, I decided to permanently make November the month in which I will always donate my royalties to The Wounded Warrior Project—a wonderful organization that supports disabled vets.

Last Step - A multicultural mystery by Gwyneth Williams

Meet the intrepid Sara, a professional woman who somehow comes to be involved in murder in Paris only to have it follow her back to Montreal. Are we involved in a follow-up to an earlier horror story or do these events belong only to contemporary society? Why does her eclectic mix of acquaintances and interests intrigue the police of these two nations so much? What is it about their mother that, when called upon, her daughters are so willing to bend the rules? Can friends be trusted? Beyond just the mystery/police procedural, Sara raises many issues about our recent and not so recent history. Fun, gripping, tight, an intercontinental intrigue that will have you laughing, sighing, and surprised by the end of it. Devotees of the Oxford English Dictionary will appreciate the marvelous descriptors.
“… my husband … sergeant, sits in the armchair with his eyes closed and his head lolling. I never assume he’s been stabbed. I assume he’s having a snooze before supper.” “Was wasting money worse or better than murder, Sara wondered, but decided to keep her question to herself”.  “She went on to read that, while several other avenues were being explored, the Paris police were concentrating their efforts on the victim's trip to Montreal.”

Collide - Kindle ebook by Ashley Stambaugh

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00IX2EUVW

"I love urban fantasy and there are some scenarios that I can read about over and over again, but it's always nice to find a fresh story that's actually unique. Collide by Ashley Stambaugh is unlike any other book I've ever read. If you enjoy stories about angels and demons, you're in for a real treat with this one. Can't wait for book two." - Reviewer

"What a ride! Melina's story is like being on a roller coaster that never slows down. While the demons and angels are consistent, strong, entities - it is the thrill that carries this book. Melina is a very strong character, so combining all of it leads to an exciting story. I believe the author is gifted. One that's born to write. I'd eagerly buy and read anything she wrote after reading Collide." - Reviewer

Melina Rowe never thought her quiet, simple life could change to one full of fear and confusion just by accidentally bumping into someone. But after she collides with an elderly man named Walter, she starts to hear people’s thoughts and have unsettling visions.

Walter reveals himself as a guiding angel and explains to Melina that she’s a rare type of human who can absorb angel powers. But her special ability is more of a problem for her than a gift.

The powers are too strong for humans and will eventually kill Melina unless she can successfully use them to help a select individual who’s in need of guidance. Her chances are slim, though, seeing that the handful of other humans this has happened to before didn't survive.

Scared for her life, Melina desperately tries to help a young man named Lee, but his continual resistance and her struggle with the powers make it almost impossible. Her situation only grows worse when a trio of soul-snatching demons is sent by an unknown entity to take her soul and kill her.

As a determined Walter sets out to discover who sent the demons and why, Melina must defend herself from their relentless attacks all while trying to use powers she doesn’t fully understand to help someone who doesn’t want to be helped. If she can’t figure out how to break through to Lee, the powers will ultimately destroy her. But if the powers don’t kill her first, the demons will.

Mystery and Misadventure – An Old Acquaintance – a Kindle eBook by M.D. Hall

Kindle Countdown 11/23/2014 – 11/28/2014

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00NBA6UUA

---

'Mystery and Misadventure – An Old Acquaintance' follows on from the original 'Mystery and Misadventure'.
The idea for the original book came in parts. I wrote a short story 'The Ticket' as a result of receiving a parking ticket. I know that my podiatrist likes my stories and so I gave her a copy. When I returned some months later she confessed to having passed it around all her friends, who loved reading of the travails of Derek – a traffic warden. In particular, they wanted to know who, or what the old man in the story was ... Was he the Devil? Was he something almost as sinister? That prompted me to write another six stories which I added to 'Ticket' to create the first 'Mystery' volume.

The cover on that first volume shows, through a fog, a walking stick leaning against a wall. This is the walking stick of the old man who appears in all seven of the stories. The cover is deliberately in dark, subdued tones, for while some of the stories involve humour, there is a dark undertone to them all.

The current volume has thirteen stories – I thought that to be apposite – six of them ghost stories, seven supernatural. Again there is a recurrent story arc of the old man ... Samuel Prite.
I enjoy writing about Samuel, and teasing you over his identity. In the final story of this volume you will discover if he is, indeed, the Devil. The cover shows, again through a fog or mist, a Morris Minor. The cover is in grayscale except for the rear lights of the car ... naturally, they are red! Of course, you will have guessed that the car belongs to Samuel. In one of the stories set in 1948, the car is brand new, but Samuel is still very old. As if his existence isn't bizarre enough, the eyes of this old man are deep blue. I don't tell the age of Samuel, but in one story there is reference to a writer reaching an agreement with an old man who answers Samuel's description ... an agreement he may later come to regret! A coincidence? I wonder.

While Samuel provides me with the inspiration for the stories – after all, he does introduce his tales, as well as closing the collection – I do research any verifiable facts with meticulous care. For instance, in the first story, 'The Clock,' the weather and moon settings on a certain Friday 13th in 1805, and again in 1903, are exactly what they were on those days in the region where the stories are set. It's the least I can do for Samuel ... After all, only a very unwise man would upset him.

On her part at least, because her self-esteem could do with one or two Frenchmen going un peu crazy for her.

What she doesn't need is for her first Grand Amour, Zachary Murdoch, to burst back into her life. Whatever shit-show she's just been through was a stroll. What Zach put her though was a climb up Mount Everest. Barefoot. In a bikini.

Now a club-owner in Paris, Zach is intrigued by the troubled woman who was once the sweet girl he had to give up. Offering a shoulder for her to cry on is what he owes her. Loving her is what he lost the right to. Because there's a reason he broke up with Lenor and that reason is why she's in Paris.

But Paris is known as the City of Love...

Will he be her turn at love?

A three book fantasy epic with

  • more words than "Lord of the Rings"
  • fewer authors than "Wheel of Time"
  • more completeness than "A Song of Fire and Ice"
  • more leading female characters than "The long, the short and the tall."
  • more twists and turns than a game of snakes and ladders.
  • more medusa than any of them!

What readers said

"The story moves at an enjoyable pace and the swapping of point of view is both enjoyable and helps to keep the pace of the book interesting"
"The inventiveness of the Helm was a pleasant surprise. (no spoilers here) I was expecting the possible cliche' magical device but that was not the case."
"There are great characters at every turn –, some do stick around more than others. Without competition though, Dema the Medusa was a personal favourite  – sheer-evil one moment, hints of compassion the next"
"The story lines twist and turn and always kept me guessing."

The Lord Son's Travels - kindle ebook by Emma Mickley

http://www.amazon.com/Lord-Sons-Travels-Emma-Mickley-ebook/dp/B00PPC8ZA0

Adrien Lord Son had always intended to live an inconspicuous life in the military, far away from the glamours and intrigues of the royal court.  He was only the second son of the Lord King, just fourth in line of succession, and so he had always happily believed he would be able to live out his life in pleasant obscurity.  But news came to their kingdom of great troubles in neighboring lands: towns and villages leveled by mysterious new weapons wielded by the legendary monsters of ancient times.  When the whispers began that the fearsome invaders would soon reach their borders, and his rigid father refused to take any steps to protect their home, Adrien knew he would have to act on his own.

Elenna Davidson had only intended to grab a quick cup of to-go coffee and arrive at her 8 am class on time for once.  But something inexplicable happened, and instead she found herself laying on the ground in the middle of a field, wondering why the stars and moon above their heads were different than the ones she had always known.  Adrien and Brendan, the two men that found her and took her into their protection were kind and thoughtful, and obviously on the run from something or someone dangerous.

Soon the vast scope of the dangers are discovered - all of the kingdoms of the Eastlands were under attack by the dreaded Lord of the Southlands.  While Adrien believes he is facing a battle between bearers of magical weapons, Elenna knows that her new friends are facing down forces using far more advanced technologies than possessed by the simple people of the Eastlands.  Elenna offers her understanding of the strange weapons in exchange for Adrien's help in returning her to her lost home.  They and all of the fascinating new companions they encounter during their journeys must combine all of their unique talents and knowledge to win the coming war and save their kingdom.  The only way to guarantee success is a quest no one had ever survived, to retrieve the one object promised by the legends to bring victory against their foes.

Epic of Ahiram: Age of the Seer - kindle ebook by Michael Joseph Murano

"Rise Like The Hero You Were Born To Be, Or Die The Slave You Think You Are."

http://www.amazon.com/Age-Seer-Epic-Ahiram-Book-ebook/dp/B00O92KX6G

"Ahiram is a mix of Batman and Harry Potter...but with more attitude." - Reviewer

Suddenly torn from his family, 12-year-old Ahiram is sold as a slave in the Kingdom of Tanniin. Six years later, in order to win his freedom and return home, Ahiram enters the elite Games of the Mines. Pursued relentlessly by his enemies and driven to the limit of his endurance, Ahiram unwittingly awakens a dormant fury within him, and its resonance is caught by a hidden malice that turns the Games into a living nightmare. Refusing to submit to a cruel tyranny, Ahiram must face a harrowing death in the bowels of the earth. Still, a glimmer of hope remains. For deep within the mines, between stone and gold, a power--unlike anything the world has seen--quietly calls his name.

Age of the Seer is Book One in the Epic of Ahiram

"I have been swept up by the wonderful characters, scope of the world, and the expanding plot. I love the struggle our hero, Ahiram, is faced with." - Reviewer

The inspiration for Ahiram came when I was fourteen years old. I went on a school field trip to Byblos, a city as ancient as time, where the sarcophagus of King Ahiram has lain quietly for thousands of years. On its sides, you could see the oldest alphabetic inscription known to mankind. After the tour, we walked on the shores of Byblos, and I began to wonder: how does one invent an alphabet? Do you sit down on the beach, fish for sand crabs, and sing "a,b,c,d,e,f,g..."? I mean, how do you actually invent an alphabet?

This is when I saw Ahiram, as a boy, running on the sandy shores of Byblos; and running after him, I entered his world, and the story became a part of me as much as I became a part of it.

And now, I would like to share the wonders of this epic with you, who like me, might prefer the flying carpets of an improbable voyage to the panegyric of placid escalators in our mega-modern airports. So here's from me to you: an epic so vast that the only screen fit for it is your imagination. - Micheal Joseph Murano

What the Barber Knew - a Kindle ebook by Bailey Herrington

http://www.amazon.com/What-The-Barber-Knew-Bailey-Herrington-ebook/dp/B007HCIBDW

A hint of the plot  David Elliott, adventurous high school junior, stumbles upon the murdered body of his barber, Benny Angelone. Days later David narrowly escapes death at the hands of an unknown assailant who believes David heard or saw something that will send the barber’s killer to the chair. He tracks young Elliott’s every move, looking for the moment to strike. But what does Elliott know? What did the barber know which signed his death warrant? In a desperate race against time David must find the answers or be killed. His daring efforts involve him in one of the most famous crimes of the 20th century and bring him - and the reader - to the cliff’s edge with a relentless killer.

What The Barber Knew, Amazon.com/Kindle Select. The germination of the plot for What The Barber Knew sprouted from a boyhood memory in Erie, Pennsylvania. Early one summer morning, I left our house and walked two blocks to a bluff on the shore of Lake Erie. A neighbor, Mr. W., a retiree from the General Electric plant, soon joined me. As we idly watched the waves break on the narrow beach below, the body of a man rolled out of the surf. Mr. W. told me to go home. Shocked and scared, I couldn’t get out of there fast enough. Before the body was identified, it was reported the man had been shot, execution-style.

Not many days later, I walked to Louis G.’s Barbershop for my monthly haircut. The shop was closed, and a sign on the door announced the reason: Mr. Louis G. had died. We kids were certain that the body in the lake was our barber. There were rumors that Louis the Barber had been a player in the numbers racket. Apparently, Louis had cheated the bosses, and suffered the fatal consequence.

When I decided to write a murder mystery in 2011, the plot was loosely based on the fate of my barber. However, my research at the Erie Public Library revealed a startling fact: Louis G. had succumbed of a stroke at home, not of a bullet wound and a watery grave. I had held fast to a mistaken notion for more than sixty years!

Hot in the Saddle - kindle ebook by Ciana Stone

http://www.amazon.com/Hot-Saddle-The-Men-Circle-ebook/dp/B00NLO7O38

Four ranchers as hot as the Arizona desert - men more than willing for a night of loving, but who all think that love is not in their cards.

Four men, four stories.

Chase Hawks and his half-brothers Clay, Cole and Caleb Russell discover that falling in love sometimes means accepting things you didn't believe were possible.

** Originally published from Ellora's Cave

Join Chase Hawks and his half-brothers Clay, Cole and Caleb Russell as they discover that falling in love sometimes means accepting things you never thought possible.

Chase'n'Ana
Chase Hawks had a good handle on life. Between his small spread in Arizona, his success on the rodeo circuit and a bevy of beautiful women always available to satisfy his urges, he figured he had control over his life.

Then fate intervened. He ran over a woman. Literally. Hit her with his truck.

Ana Stillwater had no control over her life. She’d skipped out on an abusive husband with three hundred dollars, a car that was on its last leg and a hawk named Fergi. She figured life couldn’t get any worse.

Then it did. Her car breaks down in Arizona and if that isn’t enough, she gets hit by a truck.

Which brings up the question: Just what happens when a rational, down-to-earth rancher hooks up with a quirky new age witch who can give him a hard one with just a look and likes to dance naked under the moon?

Molding Clay:
Clay Russell had plans, Big plans. First he was going to win the Nationals in bull-riding, then he was going to start his own spread and breed horses. But his family had other plans. They roped him into leaving Arizona and taking on the job of getting a struggling ranch in North Carolina back on its feet.

He didn’t expect it to be something beyond his ability. He also didn’t expect Rusty Blackhawk to be a woman. Or a witch.

Rusty had no choice but to take the Russell’s offer and partner up with them. She had to hang onto her ranch and this was the only way. She wasn’t expecting to like Clay Russell. She sure wasn’t expecting to want him.

Neither of them expected the passion that would explode between them, or the danger that would threaten their lives. They were both in for surprises.

Scout'n'Cole
Cole had no trouble attracting women. The Russell men were all blessed physically, and Cole was no exception. However, finding a woman who could match his passion for the wilderness as well as ignite passions of a different kind in his life was the problem.

Scout Windrider knew that love wasn’t for her. She’d yet to encounter a man who took her breath away, and figured it was just as well. What man would want to hook up with a woman who spent most of her life in the wild, tracking mountain lions?

Neither of them could have foreseen being paired in a no-kill hunt turned deadly would force them to confront an explosive attraction hot enough to consume them with its heat. Faced with a murderous madman intent on exacting revenge against the Windrider family, Scout and Cole take a leap of faith with each other, and discover something relegated to myth and legend prove to be true, that will touch their lives in a way that will change them forever.

Conn'n'Caleb
Single and lovingit! That’s Caleb, the only Russell man not yet hitched, and that’s fine with him. Life’s good—if a little predictable. Until a little lady drops out of the sky and into his kayak, nearly drowning him in the process.

But getting wet is the least of his problems. Seems Caleb’s going to follow his brothers when it comes to fixing on kinda offbeat women, because Conn isn’t like any woman he’s ever known. But then he’s never met a woman who isn’t from this world. And he sure as shit hasn’t ever met one who can put as much starch in his shorts and fire in his blood as Conn can with just a look.

Caleb thought he was a master when it came to seduction and making love. What he’s about to learn is that he’s only touched the tip of the iceberg.

A Christmas Castle - kindle ebook by Thomas J. Prestopnik

http://www.amazon.com/A-Christmas-Castle-ebook/dp/B00DSX5TKW

“What are you thinking about, Jack?” Gloria looked at him, knowing his thoughts were miles away in time.
Jack chuckled. “I was thinking about the Christmas night I found that shooting star stuck in a snow bank.”
Gloria curiously raised an eyebrow. “Excuse me?”

In this heartwarming novella, Christmas meets the butterfly effect when a young boy's glance at a shooting star produces surprising results through time.

When Jack Mason was eight years old in 1966, he saw a shooting star on Christmas night. Then he tried to follow it, setting off a chain reaction that affected his life, and others, in ways he would only learn about eighty-two years later when he meets Gloria Grant at the Harbor View Retirement Home. This is a tale of ordinary people, distant memories, and forgotten dreams-though sometimes even forgotten dreams can still blossom.

So what’s next?

I’m putting the finishing touches on an epic fantasy novel I began planning in 1978 (a few years after reading The Lord of the Rings), started writing in 1999, and completed the first draft in 2013. With fingers crossed, I’m hoping to release it in summer 2015 in three volumes.

Amazon Reviews:

"Wow I pick up this book by mistake and to my surprise it was great. Clean read a little funny. Well written..”

"Woohoo for Texas Pack. First off I am from Texas so I LOVED the title right off. But seriously I really enjoyed this book and can't wait to read the next one in this series. I have not enjoyed a book this much in awhile, it was nice to get a great story with great characters all the while not having to flip through all the sex scenes. Don't get me wrong I like some sex in the story but not so much that start skipping until I can tell they are done. This story had everything I like mystery, romance, comedy, danger and great characters. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone. I will definately pay close attention to this author in the future.”

"Werewolves, witches, Fay and werepanthers equal a fun filled story! I could not put the book down and was sorry to see the book end.”

"This is a very well written story with, wonderful charachter development. I enjoyed this book from start to finish. With so many great charchters in the story I'm hoping for a sequel.
While it is true as the other reviewer pointed out that this book is light on sex, I found it to be a refreshing change from many of the stories I've been reading lateley which have been almost total smut and completely devoid of any story line.”

In The Wild Card, the main character Sienna, is very relatable women to most 30-40 somethings in America.  She is a mom, a wife, a professional.  She goes about life, and a very satisfied one, day to day and is not unhappy by any means.  But there is something, just the same as most people, where in the back of her mind she is saying "Somethings Got To Give".  Feeling as though just being content isn't enough, her wish comes true as a gang of ruthless Columbian Drug Lords comes into her company and she becomes a pawn to them to get what they want. What she also doesn't realize though is that she is also a pawn for the main 'boss' as he has been watching her for months.  He has some fantasy that she can complete him and become his partner.  He wants her in his life and ends up kidnapping her in order to fulfill those wishes, dragging her back to Columbia on the pretense that by going with him she saved all the people that she works with.  The rest of the story is all the drama that unfolds during this kidnapping.  The problem is she finds him extremely attractive, kind and a sort of lost soul, with a soul. And although kidnapped and living in a world of danger, she is treated almost princess like, and begins to wonder about this man.  Is he the one to bring her out of her "funk" - although life is ripe with danger.  All if these thoughts are goign through her all the while his father is very unhappy about him bringing her to the family home as a prisoner. Or will she choose to stay loyal to her family and do whatever it takes to get home?  And at what cost.  This book is different, quite simply because it isn't a sex story, it isn't a love story, it isn't a mystery - its a combination of all of this into a great dramatic storyline.

Hollow - kindle ebook by Christopher Alan Ott

http://www.amazon.com/Hollow-Christopher-Alan-Ott-ebook/dp/B00JAP35US

When I sat down to write Hollow I had several objectives in mind: The book had to be terrifying, capable of giving the reader that pleasurable rush of adrenaline with the simple turn of the page, but it had to be more than just scary, it needed to have an  unpredictable plot, one that would keep the reader guessing chapter after chapter. Most importantly, it had to have a unique premise, a twist at the end that had never been done before in either film or literature.

The main character had to drive the emotion of the reader. He needed an innocence about him; he needed to invoke empathy and yet he had to be emotionally resilient enough to overcome extreme adversity. Jonas Kirchner was penned with this simple premise in mind.

And the supporting characters had to be well-defined too. After all, an extraordinary paranormal event is about to shake the entire town of Black Rock and the repercussions will have a seismic impact on more than just Jonas alone. How will it affect, his friends, his family?  Who will play a role in the final outcome? Who will shrink in the face of fear and who will rise to the challenge? And which characters had a pivotal hand in creating and shaping such a horrific occurrence? What is their story, and how will they play a part in bringing the novel full-circle?

The end result is a novel that I believe will leave the reader wanting more. Don't let the .99c price-tag fool you; you will receive a full-length, fantastic paranormal adventure for that modest investment. The price was set to build my readership and author recognition.

Lastly, I want to thank you, the reader for your time and interest in my work. Without you I would be writing into an abyss.

An Expats Experiences of Living in Turkey - kindle book by Colin Guest

At one time, while my wife and I were running the bar, she was serving two men who at the time were our only customers, while I was acting barman. As she came back to the bar, I noticed she had a big smile on her face. On asking what was so funny, she said, “One of those two men I just served asked how many camels you would accept for me!” I laughed, thinking she was joking, but she said, “No, he was serious.”  I called down to the men “Not less than 25.”  One of the men laughed as he replied, “Sorry, but that’s too much for me.”

Another incident at the bar was when we had a couple come in to celebrate the woman's birthday. As we knew they were coming, we had bought them a cake. After our waiter welcomed them, he came to the bar saying they would like a bottle of Champagne.  When the couple later asked for their bill, I could see there was a problem. On asking the waiter what the problem was, he replied, “They are refusing to pay for the Champagne, they said I had asked if they would like champagne when they first came in.” I thought for a minute then asked the waiter if the couple were regulars. On his saying yes, I said, “OK, although the man s being crafty and knew he was not being offered a free bottle, we will pay for it.” Sometimes one had to think of the long term, and not the short.

On the positive side, if when shopping in the open market, you forgot to take your change, the stall holder would hand it to you, or if you had walked away, would either call out or chase after you to hand it back.

Another incident occurred at work At work, I had made some good friends both in the office and on-site. One was a Turkish colleague named Hussein. I was working in the office one day when he walked in to ask me something. As we were talking, he turned and asked Graham if he had seen me last night.
“No!” Graham replied.
“Why! Don’t you like Mr. Colin?” This seemed quite funny at first. Then the inquisitive look on Hussein’s face changed to one of bristling anger. Although he was only about 5ft 6ins, he suddenly seemed to grow in stature. His eyes flared as he spat out;
“I have a gun, if you don't like Mr. Colin I will shoot you!” Graham like me was quite amused at this statement. His face lit up with a big smile. However, this soon turned to one of shock when he realised Hussein meant what he said. We quickly explained we were good friends, but did not see one another every night. On hearing this, we were relieved when Hussein relaxed and said,
“That’s OK then.”
These are some incidents not mentioned in my book, which I may later include. In general I have loved living in Turkey. One thing is certain, I have never regretted moving from England to live here.

How to make a good book cover - book marketing guide #4

A good book cover can be the single most powerful book promotion tool at your disposal. People say 'Do not judge a book by it's cover," but the truth is that everyone does it. A cover is the face of a book, and, like it or not, the very first impression of your book will be always based on the cover.

One of the things working at Goodkindles - promoting a lot of books - has taught us is that ebooks offer great opportunities. Experimenting with covers, changing them etc., used to be simply impossible,  when a publisher had already printed 20,000 copies of a book.  Today, as a self-published author you can and, more importantly, you should experiment with different versions of your cover.

Of course, everyone's taste is different and it is impossible to create an universal piece of art that will be appreciated by everybody - but while creating a cover on your own in Photoshop, Gimp, Adobe Indesign (or some other graphical design software), or while having it made by an artist, you should be aware of some things.

  • Your cover should be easy to look at and sharp in many different sizes and resolutions - on a big tablet screen, 6-inch kindle reader screen, a smartphone, but also in miniature size on Amazon products list.
  • Your cover should not lose its features when converted to a black-and-white version (as it will lose colors on ebook readers).
  • The title should be the single most important area on the cover
  • Do not try to hide or downplay the author's name. A lot of authors have reported an increase in sales when they increased the size of their author's name on the cover. We are not entirely sure if that should be regarded as true, but there is a theory that author's name written in a small font is something done commonly by indie authors,  while big names are just that - big.
  • The main version of the cover should be big, at least as big as the pixel dimensions of the most advanced reading devices - in 2014 it should be at least as big as the Ipad resolution which is 2048-by-1536 pixels.
  • Do not experiment with non-standard proportions. There were publishers who experimented with square, round and horizontal sizes - and all these experiments were failures (the exception is books for kids, which sometimes sell fine with funny shapes and sizes).
  • The colors are completely up to you, but be aware that a universal rule says that the cover should be easily noticeable and stand out. In fact what we recommend is to perform a solid research and experiment with at least two different versions of you cover. Check the best selling books of your genre. Are they mostly done with a blueish background and the title font is Trajan Pro? Then make two versions of your cover, one blue with title in Trajan Pro, the other completely different. Use one for some period of time, then switch to the other. Compare the sales results and decide which one is better.

In the next chapter of our book promotion guide, we will have a short talk about how to write a good book description. And of course do not forget to promote your book by submitting it to our site!
