This is a little something different in the Detective Jericho series.
Jericho’s former partner, with whom he worked in NYPD homicide, is found dead by gunshot, in a car by the East River. A handwritten suicide note is in his hand. Jericho leaves East Hampton, where he now works, to investigate his partner’s death. The NYPD tells him to stay out of it, which makes Jericho suspicious. Maybe this death isn’t suicide at all.
Since Jericho doesn’t have access to the usual police tools of a murder investigation; forensics, CSI data, FBI files, etc., he’s forced to investigate on his own — more like an old fashioned private eye. And this case pulls him into some of the darker and more dangerous aspects of the New York City crime scene.
As Sam Spade says in “The Maltese Falcon” — “When a man’s partner is killed, he's supposed to do something about it.”
As in all Jericho books, the reader should be prepared for a shocking ending.
