Beauty Rising a novel by Mark W Sasse

The Vietnam War, a generation removed, continues to hang on the periphery of society, cursing families and causing destruction. Beauty Rising is a powerful story of Martin Kinney, the son of an abusive, dying Vietnam vet, who charges his son to spread his ashes on the ground at the place of a chance encounter he had with a Vietnamese woman during the war.  As Martin goes against his mother’s wishes and steps out to fulfill his father’s desire, he reveals long-held family secrets that set him on a collision course with his own fateful encounter with a young, but troubled Vietnamese woman named My Phuong. Full of symbolism, rich dialogue, and rigidly drawn characters, Beauty Rising explores grand ideals such as love, family, and culture as the Vietnam War continues to cause destruction.
