In 1845, Joseph O'Brian and his son sailed to South Carolina to flee from the Great Potatoe Blight in Ireland. Arriving in America was hard on the families trying to find housing and work to support them in a new country.
The author brought some old southern history, the Civil War and slaves before the war and reliving the battles of of the war. I enjoyed reading about the families and how they enriched their lives in America.
The author brought everything together. You could feel the pressure building before the war as the young men were signing up and marching off to war, leaving their loved ones.
This is a great book, fast paced, very interesting history. A good clean novel, a MUST READ for everyone.
