Meet Those Who Met the Master - kindle ebook by Wendell E. Mettey

Meet Those Who Met the Master by Reverend Wendell Mettey delivers beautifully on a difficult proposition - keeping scriptural facts intact while adding plausible, theologically sound opinions on what some familiar Biblical characters could have been experiencing as they met Jesus face to face. Mettey targets about 90 characters from the gospel of Luke and adds what he refers to as "sanctified imagination," intricately drawn illustrations (based on real people from his ministry,) and scriptural facts to create biographical sketches of Jesus' parents and siblings, friends, foes and acquaintances.

One of the things I really liked about this book is that Mettey doesn't just focus on those people on whom Jesus had a positive effect such as Mary and Martha or Simon's mother-in-law. Instead, he includes insights into those who disliked Jesus the most - Herod, the Pharisees, and high priests - that are quite believable. This book made me really think about the back story of what was being related by Luke and how it is relevant to today's world and situations.

I wish the book had been longer! It's an easy read - I finished it in a couple of hours - but I found myself wanting more. You could easily use this as devotional or group study book or even as bedtime stories to pass along your faith to kids or grandchildren. I recommend it to anyone who has ever wondered what life in Bible times could have looked like in Jesus' day.
