Jade inherits a billion alien monsters and a gigaton of trouble.
When Lt. Jade Mahelona defeats the evil cyborg Umlac, she inherits his interstellar kingdom. Her subjects are two-ton aliens with a culture of physical dominance. She's an outsider, and the alien monsters do not accept her as their ruler. Worse, she can't ignore them or hide from them. According to their custom, if they hunt her down and kill her, they inherit the kingdom.
Meanwhile, Earth joins another interstellar empire known as the Entanglement, which promises to provide Earth with advanced weapons to fend off an onrushing alien invasion fleet. But the jealous Police Guild slows that process and schemes to turn the rest of the Entanglement against Earth.
When the only quantum-entangled teleportation link between Earth and the Entanglement is destroyed, Earth faces alien invasion from Umlac's brothers with nothing but human ingenuity to defend itself.
Jade needs to help Earth, but Jade's fate hangs on the loyalties of Hoargrim, Robeek, and Greangut, three aliens trying to find their way in the new order. They help Jade in her attempt to claim her kingdom, but with an intelligent blob, there's always more to it than meets the eye.
