Long ago during High School, Pivot's author, L.C. Barlow, was invited to a friend's youth church meeting where there was supposed to be an ex-Satanist speaking.  She sat, listened to this ex-Satanist's story, and found it intriguing.  For the next ten or so years, Barlow ruminated on the woman's story and created her own based on it.  That story is Pivot.

In Pivot, Jack Harper - once a loyal follower of Cyrus and an accomplished killer - now begins to question everything of murder and Cyrus's sect. There are new, strange forces at work that are intruding on Jack's kills, abilities, and very being. Maybe, though, deep down Jack has been waiting for this intrusion, and maybe Cyrus is not as powerful as he seems.

In this mesmerizing novel, there is the Devil, there is darkness, there is chaos, but there's something more.  What "more" there could be Jack is discovering, just as the colors seep from the walls of Cyrus's home and the red box spills men's blood.  There is something in the woods that is magnificent and blue, just like there is something hidden in the brick of Patrick's chimney.  If Jack can reach these things, even if tentatively, something beautiful amidst the darkness might be born.

Pivot is filled to the brim with unexpected twists and turns between good and evil, youth and experience, life and death, and love and malice. Every chapter has an emotional impact, where the good and dark become inextricably linked, and the boundary that proclaims those with lowly origins cannot reach beyond malevolence is torn away.
