No One Knows You're Here

Hey, Goodkindles readers!

Hope you all are well! I'd like to share my newest novel with you!  is my third, a mystery and the start of a new series. It was inspired by the most recent serial killer caught in Los Angeles. The heroine is Syeeda McKay, a laid-off crime reporter who quit smoking just as she started looking for a murderer.

Wanna know more? Here's the Formal Description:

Three weeks out of cancer surgery, crime reporter Syeeda McKay is in the pursuit of Los Angeles's most active serial killer. Over the last twenty years, the Phantom Slayer has hunted African-American prostitutes working in one of the worst parts of South Los Angeles, killing eight victims in the alleys off Western Avenue, and then disappearing into the shadows. But Syeeda doesn't know that the killer has turned his sights on her.

Detective Adam Sherwood, a hotshot investigator with the Robbery-Homicide Division of the LAPD, has been handed the Phantom Slayer cases, and together, he and Syeeda must figure out who is doing the killing . . . before Syeeda becomes his next victim.

The Vital Principle

Welcome to the witty, intriguing world of the Second Sons Inquiry Agency!

Writing mysteries set in the Regency period can be challenging. Forensics and medicine as we know it today were in their infancy and the thermometer used to take a person’s temperature wasn’t widely used until 1867 when Sir Thomas Allbutt invented the first practical medical thermometer. Even then, it took 5 minutes! So establishing the time of death in even so crude a way as taking the body’s temperature was nearly unknown, leaving investigators almost exclusively with their wits and the bits and pieces of circumstantial evidence they could collect.

But it was precisely those challenges that interested me and led to the creation of an Inquiry Agency where all those luckless second or third sons who would never inherit their family’s fortune could come to exercise their intelligence.

The Vital Principle is the first book featuring Knighton Gaunt, the founder of Second Sons.

Determined to maintain her independence and social status, Prudence Barnard stretches her small income by being little more than a professional, and entertaining, guest. If her hostess wishes to communicate with the spirit world then Pru is happy to oblige her, even if it is mostly a sham.  And it goes well until she discovers her host has hired an inquiry agent, Knighton Gaunt, to expose her as a fraud.  Unfortunately, her host is poisoned and suspicion soon falls on her. She is under investigation and that seems to be motive enough according the rest of the guests. The others unite to blame her and shield their own secrets.

Desperate to prove her innocence, Pru tries to persuade Knighton to let her help, but he refuses.  Anyone who claims to speak with THE VITAL PRINCIPLE of the dead cannot be trusted. However, nice men are rarely murdered and as Knighton digs into the pas, he finds that many of the guests have much stronger reasons for wanting their host dead. When a tragic, second murder is committed, Knighton gives Pru the benefit of the doubt in order to unveil the real murderer before she, or he, can strike again.

Can Spiritualism really be the motive for murder?

Rochelle’s Reviews says:

I usually figure out who did it at least halfway through the book. Ms. Corwin kept me guessing right up until the very end. I’m glad this is the first book in a series. I will be reading more of Ms. Corwin’s books. I’ve found a new favorite author, and a Regency mystery writer, at that!

The Pale Mansion - a Lovecraft tribute horror story

Welcome, Investigator! Please check your Elder Signs. If you are here,
you are probably interested in the strange house we have 'round here,
just down this road...

The Pale Mansion is a Cosmic Horror story intended as both a tribute to
Howard Philips Lovecraft and as a light polemic with his writing,
written by a professional translator and longtime Lovecraft fan.
It is available on Amazon online bookstore in kindle format.

The Story

Recounted from the first person perspective, The Pale Mansion tells the
story of one Arthur Bollingham, an heir to the eponymous estate. As the
young man will soon find out, the Pale Mansion is not just any old
house, and living there might not be as healthy as in other places of
the country.

The Characters

One of the reasons The Pale Mansion came into being in the first place
was dissatisfaction with H.P.L's protagonists. The story endeavours to
present characters with distinct personalities, who differ from each
other and have rather more depth than was a standard for Lovecraft. They
vary in temperament, knowledge and skills, a fact which might influence
their fates greatly :

Arthur Bollingham - an economist in his late twenties, Arthur is the
heir to the Pale Mansion and narrator of the story. He is a
level-headed, rather conventional young man, fond of symmetry and
observing proprieties.

Quincey Hartman - a physician and Arthur's best friend, Mr. Hartman is
much less strict in his demeanour. He likes a good laugh, long walks,
big glasses of port and dogs.

Sarah Noyes - Arthur's cousin, a young lady of impeccable if rather dull
upbringing. She is intent on providing her cousin with company, such as
she might offer.

The Place

Most of the recounted events take place in the eponymous house, the
building itself being placed somewhere in the "Lovecraft Country" we all
know and love. The estate is situated near Providence, Rhode Island, but
excessive landmarking and descriptions have been avoided, on purpose.
The real stage of events is, and has always been, the human mind.

Enjoy your stay around the Realm of R'lyeh, Investigator. You might want
to write us about your experiences, lest your knowledge dies with you...

Shotgun Start

Greetings to my fellow GoodKindle readers out there. My name is Mike
Nettleton and I'm a retired broadcasting gypsy turned mystery author. I've
co-written 5 books with my wife, Carolyn Rose and Shotgun Start is my first
solo title. With this book I combined three things I loved, suspense and
mystery fiction, golf and the high desert around Albuquerque New Mexico.
Anyone who's live in New Mexico will testify to the unique character of the
place and the reviewer's have told me I've captured that. If you're not a
golfer, have no fear, the emphasis is on the mystery-suspense angle. Golf is
strictly a backdrop for nefarious goings on including: Biker gangs, The
Methamphetamine Trade, Internet Porn, sleazy television hosts, Ex wives in
trouble and the search for the meaning of true love. Please let me know if
you need more info. Here's the book cover.

Fourteen Days Later

A big hi to everyone in Goodkindles land!
I'm Sibel Hodge and I haves 8 cats and 1 husband. In my spare time, I'm Wonder Woman! When I'm not out saving the world from dastardly demons, I writes quirky chick lit with a hefty dose of screwball comedy.

If you like fun romantic comedies, you'll love my bestselling novel Fourteen Days Later...

Fourteen Days Later was short listed for the Harry Bowling Prize 2008 and received a Highly Commended by the Yeovil Literary Prize 2009. It is a romantic comedy with a unique infusion of British and Turkish Cypriot culture. Written in a similar style to Marian Keyes, it is My Big Fat Greek Wedding meets Bridget Jones.

When accident-prone Helen Grey finds a thong stuffed into the pocket of her boyfriend's best work trousers, it's time for her to move on. His excuse that he needed to dust the photocopier and just thought that it was a rag sounds like a lame excuse.

Helen's life is propelled in an unexpected direction after her best friend, Ayshe, sets her a fourteen-day, life-changing challenge. Helen receives a task everyday which she must complete without question. The tasks are designed to build her confidence and boost her self-esteem but all they seem to do is push her closer to Ayshe's brother, Kalem.

How will Kalem and Helen get together when she's too foolish to realize that she loves him? How can he fall for her when he is too busy falling prey to her mishaps and too in love with his own perfect girlfriend? How will Kalem's Turkish Cypriot family react when they find out?

Is it really possible to change your life in fourteen days?

"A hilarious romance! The storyline was entertaining and funny; the characters were unique, colorful, and relatable. I had a hard time putting this one down because I never knew what funny catastrophe or line would come next."

GRANDPA HATES THE BIRD: Six Short Stories of Exciting, Hilarious and Possibly Deadly Adventure

Hello Goodkindles Readers!

I’m the author of GRANDPA HATES THE BIRD, a collection of comic short stories for young readers. Do you enjoy watching old men trying to kill small animals? (No, not Charlotte’s Web – Elmer Fudd and Bugs Bunny!) Are you a child between the ages of 6 and 10 or an adult who reads to one? Then you’ll love GRANDPA HATES THE BIRD! Just think: the next time you’re stuck in a crowded waiting room, you can hand your cranky child your smartphone with a story about a funny bird instead of a video game about Angry Birds!

Here’s what one reviewer had to say on Amazon:

Stuck in endless traffic with my 8th and 4th grade kids, husband and mother - no problem! We read, "Grandpa Hates the Bird" aloud and were all riveted. When we arrived at our destination our 9 year old howled "Oh no! Keep reading." Bird, the main character, is a rare combination of astute and charming. His voice, wildly amusing, echoes the realities of domestic family life. And we don't particularly like birds. Well, we didn't.” - Susan Fried

Here’s a description:

“Alas, it’s true. Grandpa hates me. He has always hated me, even before I used his ear as a swing toy (his lobes are so long and flappy!). I can’t imagine why. I assume Grandpa hates me simply because I am the bird—and he is not.”

Everybody loves Bird. Joseph and Maya, Mother and Father, Humphrey the dog, Slick the snake. Everyone except Grandpa, who will stop at nothing to set Bird free. Forever.

• How does the battle begin when Bird and Grandpa are alone together for a whole week?
• See classroom chaos in Bring Your Pet to School Day!
• Exactly what are they hunting at the Aw Shoot archery range?

In the spirit of Tom and Jerry, Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd, and Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote, here come Bird and Grandpa. So fasten your feathers, warm up your wings, and buy GRANDPA HATES THE BIRD here:

Thanks – and happy reading!

Venture Untamed

Hello, Goodkindles readers! I'm R.H. Russell, the author of Venture Untamed, probably the only MMA (mixed martial arts) fantasy out there. Though technically a fantasy because it takes place in a made-up world, the only magic in Venture Untamed is the power of the fighter in all of us—and the power of love, both of which young Venture Delving, a bonded servant with impossible dreams, discovers in this novel.

Venture Delving is a bonded servant, a member of the lowest class in the world. Already fatherless, when he loses his mother, he veers from energetic to out of control. But when Venture's rage saves the life of Jade, his best friend and his master's daughter, Venture finds himself in the last place he ever expected—a center renowned for training young boys to be professional fighters.

When Venture realizes he's fallen in love with Jade, he knows that the only way he'll ever have her, the only way he'll ever be free to live the life he's meant to live, is to defy convention, common sense, the trust of those he cares about most—and sometimes the law—and become the best fighter in the world, the Champion of All Richland. Venture must battle not only rival fighters, but the ghosts of his past and the members of a privileged warrior class who stand between him and his dream.

neighborhood to be with his mother. The gang reasserts its hold on
him, and the leader orders Darnell to kill a member of a rival gang.

back to school and the security of small-town life.

When the head gangbanger learns of Darnell's lie, the small Kentucky
town isn't so safe any more.

Trials By Fire

First time author, long time writer.  Just launched my debut book, Trials By Fire.

The Divine Order Saga is a series of books set in a world with Victorian-Era technology. After creation, mankind waged war against each other for millenia before a group of warriors, dedicated to the gods, forced warlords to kneel and surrender. Thus The Order came to be, having banded all mankind together into unity. The Order created a monarchy to rule the land, relegating itself to the interest of the gods. From The Order sprang Justices – divine warriors whose purpose was to maintain good and law in the land, doing the will of the gods.

When Daron becomes a fully graduated member of the Order - a divinely inspired establishment set to provide peace and justice within the land - he stumbles upon a plot surrounding a young woman, Leah, fleeing for her life before mercenaries sent to fetch her. While attempting to keep her safe and grow into his new abilities, he becomes tangled in the plans of a man in possession of unholy magic, never before seen in the realm, who is bent on opening the eyes of humanity to a dark truth.

Daron struggles to fit into a world he doesn't fully understand and fight to keep humanity safe, while delving into Leah's difficult past. With the fate of the kingdom at stake, he has to trust in the gods, but not is all as it seems.

Thicker Than Water (Blood Brothers)

Hi, I'm Greg. I love the mythology surrounding vampires, but I have a tendency to loathe vampire fiction. Too often they're a bunch of tofu-sucking day-walking Goth kids who whine about monotony of eternity because after a thousand years they still haven't learned to enjoy life. I wrote 'Thicker Than Water' because I thought I could do better, because I thought the vampire ought to be a hedonistic sadist who views himself as more important than humanity. The story shows readers the world through the eyes of two two god-like antiheroes who feud with one another as they seduce women, rob trains, burn down buildings, and otherwise wage war against all things wholesome from the wild west up to present day Las Vegas.

As a word of warning, this is a book for mature audiences, and preferably audiences who hate the human race and it's notions of decency.

The first book, Tempest, has sold over 7,000 eBook copies and follows the story of a girl who learns she's a human hurricane--literally.  Inferno continues her story, and brings in a new natural disaster: volcanoes.
Ever since becoming leader of the human hurricanes called Tempests, 16-year-old Janelle is overdue for a vacation. But the trip to Hawaii quickly presents its own problems when she meets Kenna, a local sophomore who makes the volcano start rumbling when she's nearby. So when Kenna gets kidnapped, Janelle has to find her before catastrophes can start.  If she doesn't, it could mean the end of civilization as we know it, and the death of everyone she loves.

The Impressionists

Hello Goodkindles Readers,

I'd like to introduce you to my short story collection The Impressionists.

They say never judge a book by its cover but it's something many of us are guilty of at some point or another. Of course, judging a person by their appearance is equally foolhardy, as none of us can know the personal turmoil behind the public fa├žade of a perfect stranger. But what if we could…

The Impressionists is collection of six poignant, sometimes heart-wrenching, sometimes heart-warming and frequently witty first person short stories from award-winning author Andrew Biss.

Each of these stories juxtaposes the public face with the private, conflicted person behind it.

An overweight young woman named Peggy appraises her recently purchased self-help book, "The Bigger the Better."

An abused wife reflects on her past and deconstructs the emergence of the replica that now haunts her present.

Malcolm, a gentle, middle-aged soul with a troubled mind, keeps his mother's remains sealed in a small porcelain box. What he keeps hidden among his memories, however, isn't so easily contained.

Denny, a prisoner on death row in an Alabama State Penitentiary spends his final moments reviewing his career as a serial killer in an interview with himself.

A woman in the viewing room of a funeral home addresses the body of her lover in the coffin before her.

Eileen, a reclusive, middle-aged divorcee, still haunted by the loss of her son, discovers a new life in the virtual world.

One Pink Line

Greetings Goodkindles readers! I have just released my debut novel, One Pink Line, and am thrilled to finally have it available on Kindle. And although my eight-year old son told me it was the worst book title he's ever heard, I am pretty darn proud to be able to share it with you. Thanks so much for your interest. Enjoy!

Book Description:
Can the love of a lifetime be forever changed by one pink line? Dina Silver's tender, absorbing novel, One Pink Line, is the warmhearted, wry story of love, loss and family, as seen through the prism of one singular, spirited young couple who find themselves in a predicament that changes the course of their lives, and those closest to them. With heart, humor and compassion, this debut work of women's fiction is certain to stir anyone who relishes a good laugh, can stand a good cry, and, above all believes in the redemptive power of love. This unique, contemporary story gives readers a dual perspective. Sydney Shephard, a sweet-tempered, strong-natured college senior is young, in love with an exceptional man, and unexpectedly pregnant. Faced with a child she never planned for, she is forced to relay this news to her neurotic mother, relinquish her youth, and risk losing the love of her life. Then there's Grace, a daughter, who believed she was a product of this great love, grows to realize her existence is not what she assumed, and is left with profound and puzzling questions about who she really is. Spanning generations and every imaginable emotion, One Pink Line reveals how two points of view can be dramatically at odds, and perhaps ultimately reconciled. Simultaneously deeply felt and lighthearted, One Pink Line deftly mines how the choices we make are able to alter so many lives, and how doing the right thing and living honestly can bring unexpected, hard-won happiness. It's a must-read for anyone who craves a great love story, absorbing characters, and plenty of laughs along the way.

Dark Lord Academy's not just unappealing, it's downright terrible. His advisor dyes Danny's blond hair black and changes his name to the unpronounceable Zxygrth. He can't get the hang of maniacal laughter, his second-in-command servant is a puke-colored monkey, and the cafeteria lady enjoys serving stewed cockroaches or fried bat wings. A run in with a hero results in hate mail and he gets caught up in a rivalry with the school bully. The only way for Danny to stay alive is to find his inner villain.

Don't Fear the Reaper

17-Yr-old Keely Morrison is about to discover that love transcends death.

"Haunting and Beautiful." ~Andrea Thompson

Grief-stricken by the murder of her twin, Keely Morrison is convinced suicide is her ticket to eternal peace and a chance to reunite with her sister. When Keely succeeds in taking her own life, she discovers death isn't at all what she expected. Instead, she's trapped in a netherworld on Earth and her only hope for reconnecting with her sister and navigating the afterlife is a bounty-hunting reaper and a sardonic, possibly unscrupulous, demon. But when the demon offers Keely her greatest temptation—revenge on her sister's murderer—she must uncover his motives and determine who she can trust. Because, as Keely soon learns, both reaper and demon are keeping secrets and she fears the worst is true—that her every decision will change how, and with whom, she spends eternity.

The Book of Lost Souls

It's not easy being a teen witch Just ask Ivy MacTavish. Black magic, evil spellbooks, a Beezlepup & one charming demon. What could go wrong?
"...a beautiful debut novel that will charm the hearts of readers both young and old." ~A Book Vacation

When teen witch Ivy MacTavish changes a lizard into her date for a Halloween dance, everything turns to chaos. And when no one is powerful enough to transform him back except Ivy, it sparks the rumor: Like father, like daughter. Ivy has heard it all before - that her father, who left when she was seven – was involved with the darkest of magic.

Making the rumors worse, someone uses an evil spell book to bring back two of history's most nefarious killers. Ivy's got a simple plan to set things right: find the real dark spell caster, steal the book, and reverse the spell. No problem! But she'll have to deal with something more dangerous than murderous spirits that want her and her friends dead: the school's resident bad boy and hotter-than-brimstone demon, Nick Marcelli. Nick's offering Ivy more than his help with recovering the missing book – he's offering her a way to ditch her scaly reputation as a lizard-lover. Demons are about as hard to handle as black magic, and as Ivy soon discovers, it's going to take more than a lot of luck and a little charm if she wants to survive long enough to clear her status as a dark witch, get a warm-blooded boyfriend, and have her former date back to eating meal worms before the week's end.
